چکیده

In this study, two polymeric materials were tested in a dry rotating “pin-on-disc” configuration against differently coated surfaces, to evaluate their tribological response under conditions, such as those of rotary lip seals, and identify the wear mechanism each coupling. A PTFE based material, reinforced with glass fibers solid lubricant, unreinforced polyketone chromium oxide coating deposited by plasma thermal spraying, CrN/NbN superlattice Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) obtained through hybrid PVD/PECVD (Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Deposition) process. The matrix composite offers better overall performance, terms specific rates friction coefficients than polyketone. Although behavior material is generally worse that composite, it can be used without reinforcing fillers. Our analysis demonstrates importance transfer-film formation on counter-surfaces, which prevent further polymer if adheres well counterpart. However, tribofilm has opposing effects coefficient for materials: its leads lower higher

Mechanical and Tribological Behavior of Aluminum Alloy LM13 Reinforced with Titanium Dioxide Metal Matrix Composites

In the present research work physical, mechanical and tribological behavior of Aluminum (Al) alloy LM13 reinforced with Nano-sized Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) particulates were fabricated, mechanical and tribological properties were investigated. The amount of nano TiO2 particulates in the composite was added from 0.5% to 2% in 0.5 weight percent (wt %) increments. The Al-LM13-TiO2 Metal Matrix Com...

Tribological Behavior of Reinforced and Unreinforced High Chromium Cast Iron

In this paper, the metal matrix composites containing 22 wt % Cr, 2.5 wt % C and 2 to 16  volume percent TiC were processed by solidifying Fe-Cr-Ti-C in which precipitation of titaniumcarbide and chromium carbide occurred. The microstructure and abrasion resistance of in-situ synthesized composites were compared with the unreinforced high chromium white cast iron (HCWCI) containing 22 w. t. % C...

Tribological performance of Graphene/Carbon nanotube hybrid reinforced Al2O3 composites

Tribological performance of the hot-pressed pure Al2O3 and its composites containing various hybrid contents of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were investigated under different loading conditions using the ball-on-disc method. Benchmarked against the pure Al2O3, the composite reinforced with a 0.5 wt% GNP exhibited a 23% reduction in the friction coefficient along wit...

Fiber reinforced plastic composites using recycled materials

This work investigates the feasibility of using recycled high density polyethylene (rHDPE), recycled polypropylene (rPP) and old newsprint fiber (ONP) to manufacture fiber reinforced composites. The boards were made through air-forming and hot press. The effects of the fiber loading and coupling agent content on tensile, flexural, internal bond properties and water absorption and thickness swel...

Mechanical and Tribological Behavior of Particulate Reinforced Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites – a review

Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) sought over other conventional materials in the field of aerospace, automotive and marine applications owing to their excellent improved properties. These materials are of much interest to the researchers from few decades. These composites initially replaced Cast Iron and Bronze alloys but owing to their poor wear and seizure resistance, they were subject...
